Worried About Your Trees? 4 Services Your Trees Need This Summer

Posted on: 23 June 2022

Summer is here. If you haven't taken steps to protect your trees, you still have time. Trees need special care during the summer months, especially during drought conditions. If you're worried about your trees, read the list provided below. Here are four services that your trees need this summer.

Reduce Water Competition

If you live in a drought-impacted area of the United States, you might have water restrictions. If that's the case, you need to make sure your trees make do with the water they receive. One way to do that is to prevent water competition. Not sure what water competition is? It's when trees need to fight other plants for water. This can happen a lot when there's grass in the yard. This is especially true when grass grows right up to the trunk. You can prevent water competition by removing the grass that grows around your trees.

Improve Moisture Retention

Once you've removed the grass from around the trees, take steps to improve moisture retention. If the soil is compacted around the trees, moisture can't get absorbed down to the roots. Lack of moisture can lead to drought fatigue. If you're worried about drought fatigue, take steps to improve moisture retention. There are a couple of ways you can do that. You can loosen the soil around the tree. You can install a drip irrigation system around your tree. Drip irrigation provides a slower release of water, which improves absorption. Finally, you can use moisture-retaining mulch around your trees.

Arrange for Pest Treatment

If you want to protect your trees this summer, arrange for pest treatment as soon as possible. Drought fatigue and warm weather can increase the risk for pest infestations. Those conditions also put your trees at an increased risk for pest-related damage. Luckily, there are ways to safeguard your trees this summer. First, schedule pest treatment with your local tree service. Second, have your trees inspected at least once this summer.

Prepare for Severe Weather

If you're expecting severe weather this summer, now's the time to prepare your trees. Severe weather includes torrential rain, lightning storms, and strong winds. These weather conditions can do real damage to your trees, especially if they're not prepared. Before severe weather conditions arrive, talk to your tree service provider. They can brace your trees. This is especially beneficial for weak branches, or for areas that have already sustained storm damage.

Constructing and Filling Raised Garden Beds

Hi there, I am Kirk Blathers. I would like to share my knowledge about raised garden beds, so I created this website. My raised garden beds house tons of bulbs that push up out of the ground as soon as the warm weather arrives. Alongside the beds, I have a few tubs full of fresh herbs and vegetables that climb the trellises. I would love to share the information I've gathered about created raised bed frames from scratch. Some people have used actual bed frames while others created the beds out of wood materials. I will also discuss soil, seed, and fertilizer selection for each bed size and type. I hope that the information I share will help you create a beautiful set of raised beds for your yard. Thanks.
