Lawn Mowing Tips To Care For Your Lawn Regularly
Posted on: 23 June 2020
Keeping their lawn looking great all summer is a goal of many homeowners, but it requires some regular diligence and care. Here are some tips to help you properly mow and care for your lawn if you want a yard and lawn that will be the envy of your neighborhood.
Take Care of Your Mower
First, it is important to take care of the machine that will take care of your lawn—your lawn mower. Your lawn mower needs maintenance just like your vehicle does, so be sure to refill its fuel tank before you start the mower. If you were to run out of gasoline in the middle of mowing your lawn, you would have to refill it to finish the job, and it is not a good idea to refill the tank while it is hot. So, instead of having to wait until your mower cools down, always refill the gas tank before you start mowing.
Also check the blade and sharpen it when needed. Be sure that you connect the blade the right way and don't install it upside-down. Even if you bought your mower already built by a local retailer, make sure the blade is installed the right way. Otherwise, your blade might be rotating in the wrong direction, and your lawn blades will have a shredded appearance.
Mow With the Right Timing
When you mow your lawn, make sure you are mowing it at the right time of day so you don't cause your lawn unnecessary stress or cause damage to your mower. If you were to mow your lawn in the early morning, for example, there is going to be dew on the lawn, which can clog your mower. However, mowing your lawn in the middle of the day puts stress on your lawn by cutting it during the hottest part of the day. It is better to mow your lawn in the evening, which allows your lawn overnight to recover from its recent cutting.
It is also a good idea to mow your lawn on a regular basis to keep your lawn at a regulated length. This prevents you from cutting too much length from your lawn all at once. For example, if you forget to mow your lawn one weekend and mow the following weekend, you will cut off more from your lawn blades. It is recommended that you only remove no more than one-third of the blade length. Any more than that will hurt your lawn's health and should be avoided.
